LeanTaaS Announces Dr. Hugh Cassidy as New Chief Data Scientist

Industry Veteran Returns to LeanTaaS to Advance Data Science Practice and Innovation Across New Products

Santa Clara, Calif., October 17, 2022 — LeanTaaS, Inc., a market-leading Silicon Valley-based technology innovator that transforms core operational processes to increase patient access, decrease wait times, reduce healthcare delivery costs, and improve revenue, today announced it has hired Dr. Hugh Cassidy as Chief Data Scientist. Dr. Cassidy’s appointment further signals the company’s growth momentum and commitment to expanding its product portfolio to help healthcare organizations unlock capacity across the continuum of care.

A proven leader with deep expertise in the application of mathematical algorithms to solve healthcare operational challenges, Dr. Cassidy returns to LeanTaaS where he was initially hired in 2013 as the company’s first data scientist. In this role, Dr. Cassidy will be responsible for advancing the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning capabilities embedded in LeanTaaS’ product suite. Dr. Cassidy will also accelerate LeanTaaS’ expertise in key AI categories relevant to healthcare operations, including Machine Learning techniques like Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Expert Systems, and more. Under his guidance, the data science team will power the innovation necessary to launch new products that help LeanTaaS achieve its vision of becoming the operational air traffic control for hospitals and health systems nationwide.

During Dr. Cassidy’s first five years at LeanTaaS, he created the company’s core mathematical algorithms that transformed infusion operations, including level-loading infusion chairs, predicting volume and mix of infusion patients on future days, and optimizing templates based on constraints caused by chair and nurse availability. He led the data science efforts on all of LeanTaaS’ initial products, including iQueue for Infusion Centers, iQueue for Operating Rooms, and the early feasibility work on iQueue for Inpatient Beds.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Cassidy back to LeanTaaS, especially at the helm of our data science team,” said Mohan Giridharadas, CEO and Founder of LeanTaaS. “This team and the depth of data science in each of our products have grown significantly during Dr. Cassidy’s absence. We have no doubt that Dr. Cassidy will further accelerate our data science agenda, push us in new directions, and bring the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that our data science innovations rapidly integrate into our products to best serve our customers.”

Dr. Cassidy rejoins LeanTaaS after a successful three-year period at True Blue Partners, where he served as Vice President, Investment Banking. At True Blue, Dr. Cassidy led a team of analysts and associates while simultaneously running the P&L for the M&A business. On the client side, Dr. Cassidy has led multiple successful M&A deals, including transactions and reviews of various companies with cutting edge applications of AI/ML. Dr. Cassidy holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Connecticut, an MBA from Cornell University, and a BS in Computer Science from University College Dublin.

“I’m thrilled to return to LeanTaaS as Chief Data Scientist. I’ve always been inspired by the company’s mission to improve patient access to healthcare services by transforming the operational performance of hospitals,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The power of AI/ML and advanced mathematics, combined with the robust data science team that LeanTaaS has built over the last three years, make this mission more achievable than ever. I’m eager to dive back in.”
